About the artist
Born in Paris, Émile Pierre Metzmacher is known for his genre paintings, portraits, and etchings. He studied under Gustave Boulanger (1824–1888) and Charles Gleyre (1808–1874) and was well recognized during his lifetime. He debuted at the Salon in Paris in 1863 and received an honorable mention in 1879. He also received an honorable mention in 1899 at the l’Exposition Universelle in Paris.
The present work, Une dame dans le forêt, is an exceptional example of Metzmacher’s mature style, clearly showing the influence of his formal French academic training in the ateliers of Boulanger and Gleyre.More by this Artist
