The Young Greek

About the Artist
Born April 20, 1865 in Marseille, Roux studied under Pierre Jules Cavelier (French Sculptor, 1814–1894) and Ernest Barrias (French Sculptor, 1841–1905) and was awarded the Rome prize in 1894. Examples of his work are the Statue of Prince Albert I of Monaco and the bust of General Lamoricière which is in the Museum in Nantes.
This bust features a young man with a hairband in the classical style, his head turned sideways. It still has the original bright lacquer patina. The caster’s stamp is on the bottom of the bust: Bronze A.G.-Paris.
