About the Artist

Carl Schulz (also called “Jagdschulz”) was born November 2, 1796 in Selchow, Germany, the son of a baker. He studied at the Academy of Berlin, after which he visited most of Europe. His travels included trips to Holland, France, England and Russia. He initially painted seascapes, then hunting scenes and at last uniform paintings (among others: the soldiers of Friedrich the Great for Friedrich Wilhelm III). In 1831 he was nominated a member of the Academy of Berlin and in 1840 he was appointed professor at the same. Schulz died March 3, 1866 in Neuruppin, Germany.
